How to stay resilient in the face of the effort it takes to become resilient - a modern, post-modern (or perhaps not so modern) conundrum

I have been invited to design a Masterclass to help People Leaders manage and develop their energy at work - physical, interpersonal, emotional, any other kind you dare to name. In the face of long working hours (us Aussies work amongst some of the longest hours in the developed world) in jobs that - whilst they do matter - we struggle to see our actual contribution- a bit like searching for your grain of sand on a beach.
Whether we are building our resilience and energy or seeking to maintain it, the principles are the same:
- Unplug your life and get sufficient exercise (40 minutes of walking 3 x per week will do it and you will think more clearly);
- Make sure you sleep enough (so easy to say but terribly important - watch that 2am awakening);
- Are you developing your optimism by disputing your negative and often personal beliefs, and replacing these with optimistic beliefs? (Seligman's ABCDE model helps manage negative thinking);
- Identify your strengths (using the VIA strengths survey) and play to them; and
- Engage with other positive and optimistic people, and ask that they help you to stay on track - by giving you feedback, by helping you debrief and more importantly reframe challenging issues - and maybe to go walking with you.
These steps will definitely reward you - you just need to have sufficient resilience in order to start.
